The Bibliopolis A-Z Reading Challenge

This year, while the 4th graders and up are participating in the 40-Book Reading Challenge, some of the 1st-3rd graders are trying the A-Z Reading Challenge. The challenge is to read at least one book starting with each letter of the alphabet (either by title or author). Here are Sophie (3rd grade) and Lucy (2nd grade), as well as Jamie (Pre-School), recommending books to each other, and having some fun. 🙂

Doesn’t this make you want to read? Especially The Chronicles of Narnia?! “I can’t read yet, but this is a good book!” 🙂

The Free 5th Book Ceremony

It’s been less than a month since we launched Bibliopolis U, and Gracepoint Berkeley church has caught Reading Fever! While Jennifer and Matt were the first college students to receive their free 5th book, our post-grads have joined the reading revolution, and we have given away 11 free books already.

When you’ve finished reading your 4th book, you just find me at DL or HB and we have our free 5th book ceremony. That entails chit-chatting a little about the books you read while you choose your free 5th book, and you pose for a photo that will be on our Wall of Fame (coming soon). And just because it makes things a bit more fun, everyone gets a 1st award in one or more categories. You’ll note some of the categories are pretty…specialized. 🙂

You may have noticed that there are some demographics noticeably absent in the wall of fame thus far — special call for all the post-grad brothers, IGSM, and a2f Berkeley readers out there to represent!

Which book are you going to choose for your free 5th book?

The Good Life and The Good Book

At Gracepoint Berkeley church, Bibliopolis U has started a reading revolution indeed. A lot of our Praxis brothers and sisters came to the book fair this past Sunday, and more than a couple of people remarked, “These remind me of Scholastic Book Fairs from elementary school!” Everyone is super motivated to win their free book, many even kept asking, “Are you sure? This is too good to be true! Do I have to write a book report?”

Some asked me how I was able to get all of these books for such good prices. Unfortunately, I don’t know of a secret place to buy brand new books on the cheap. Church is actually subsidizing the cost of the books because we’re that excited to encourage you all to read — isn’t that awesome?

For some exciting news, we had our first two college students who read 4 books redeem their bookmarks for their free 5th book. Jennifer and Matt are both seniors in Berkeley Koinonia (represent!).

free book - the good life

Jennifer chose The Good Life by Charles Colson for her free book! Is it just me, or does Frances looks even happier than Jennifer? 🙂

matt choses the bible - the best book!

Matt chose the Good Book, which is, after all, the best book!

Were you at the book fair this past Sunday? What have you started to read?
